When traveling it is essential to plan ahead, so when you arrive at your destination, you lessen the chances of being at a loss of what to do. Knowledge gained from others travel can be invaluable, especially when planning to travel to somewhere you have never been before. The advice on this page is helpful to everyone planning a trip to Costa Rica.
Money
The money used in Costa Rica is called colons. You can change dollars into colons at the airports in San Jose and local banks. The exchange rates can be from the low 200s to 400s colons for each US dollar. (Now everywhere in Costa Rica you can buy or pay in US dollars, but I think things are cheaper if you pay in colons.) Other ways you might get colons is if you pay for something in US dollars, you will receive change in colons. During my stay at Costa Rica, I once paid a cab driver in US money, and I received change in the local currency. You should also make sure your dollars are not torn. Local banks and businesses do not accept torn US dollars. I tried to exchange a torn $50 bill, and the bank would not accept it!
-Bringing Money
On my trip I brought my money half in dollars and the other half in American Express cheques. When a traveler cheque is used there will be a commission fee.
When to visit/weather
Costa Rica has two seasons – the dry season and the green season (or rainy season). The dry season is from December to March. The dry season is the busiest time in Costa Rica. Prices are much higher and it is harder to find a place to stay. Now in the green season you will find much cheaper prices. The green season is from April to November. During the rainy season it generally rains for a few hours and then clears up.
Traveling within Costa Rica
Bus – You can catch one to most parts of the country. There are a few places where the bus comes only once a day though…
Cab – There are red cabs throughout the country. If the cab driver tells you the meter is broker, just get out. First it is illegal for a cab driver to drive with a broken meter in Costa Rica; secondly he might just be trying to rip you off.
Renting a Car – You can rent a car, but to me personally I would find driving in Costa Rica difficult, since I’m not from the country and it seems there are a lack of street signs. Also the prices for a car rental can be pretty expensive.
Local airlines – You can catch local flights to places throughout Costa Rica. They are regularly scheduled and reasonably inexpensive.
Cities and Towns
Cities in Costa Rica are San jose (The Capital) Alajuela, Cartago, Heredia, Jaco, Liberia, Manuel Antonio, park, Pochote, Puerto Limon, Puntarenas, Parismina, and Tamarindo.

When you go camping you don’t want to get stuck in the dark so you will agree that camping lanterns are a very essential part of your equipment and they should be on your short list of things to take with you on your trips. When you go shopping for a lantern you will find out that there are a lot of models that you can choose from. A few of them are worth considering and we will take a look at some of them.
One of the best lanterns out there nowadays is the “Brunton Liberty Lantern”. It is a small and compact type that is powered by butane and the fact that there are no mantels or glass globes will make climbers and hikers very happy. The price is very low so most people will be able to buy it.
Also from Brunon there is the “Lucy Lantern” which runs on isobutene and is also very compact. A key feature is the electric ignition which is fumble-free, it also has a mesh globe which is very durable. The estimated burn time is about 8.5 hours and with 65 watts it has a pretty good brightness rating.
A big name in camping equipment is of course Coleman and a list would not be complete without one of their lanterns and the best from them must be the “Coleman Exponent Lantern”. It fits in most back pockets, has a ventilator which will not rust because of the porcelain coating, the fuel tank can resist corrosion then it is also coated and the design has a single mantle, this burns, when on low, for seven hours or, when on high, for three hours under normal circumstances.
It will burn on the clean fuel from Coleman which is more compact then any disposable cartridge. A thing to keep in mind is the fact that a lot of camping stoves run on white fuel, like this lantern, and that makes it a better candidate for becoming your next camping lantern because you will only need one type fuel which will help in keeping your baggage light.
Going on a camping trip is fun and the preparation on itself is fun too, making sure that you have everything that is on you list and thinking if you missed anything that should have been on there but that you forgot. Let’s keep from getting frustrated that you are in the dark on the first night of the trip just because you didn’t think about taking a lantern with you.
You will find that the prices will vary a lot so don’t get the first one you see but browse around a bit until you find one that fits your need and has the right price. How much a lantern costs should not be your main reason for buying one, things like quality, usage and fuel type are more important. Maybe solar energy is an option for you but make sure that you get enough hours of light with one charging by the sun.

More and more people today enjoy the simple, wholesome fun of hiking. hiking is an affordable, yet healthy and emotionally rewarding way to spend a vacation or a long weekend – and you don’t need to visit a travel agent.
Experienced hikers will always tell you that every detail matters when you pack hiking gear, especially tents and camping stoves. The right hiking accessories and clothing, a properly and ergonomically packed backpack, positive mood and good fitness – all these elements play an equally important role in the success of any hiking trip.
hiking boots are the most important part of your hiking gear. The right footwear will serve you longer and take you farther and safer than any training shoes or sneakers will. You can wear a cheaper pair of pants or an old t-shirt, but a good reliable pair of hiking shoes or boots should be as expensive as you can afford.
Many people consider their jackets as another important clothing item for a hiker, especially in the colder periods of the year. A hiking jacket can be a true lifesaver if you choose well. A Gore-Tex top layer will shield you from cold, wet, and windy weather. Many hiking jacket manufacturers use a layering approach in their jackets, so that an outer shell layer becomes not insulation, but goes over insulating clothing. Underneath a Gore-Tex layer your can wear a lightweight and even trendy fleece jacket, which you can use in warmer months and for other sporting activities too.
Light weight towels should also one of your accessories
hiking tents are a must if you plan to camp in mountain regions in all three hiking seasons – spring, summer, and fall. hiking tents can be used for protection from storms, winds, small animals and insects. Along with a tent pack a sleeping bag and an insulating ground pad which also brings warmth as well as ironing out bumpy ground.
A lightweight, dependable back packing stove is much easier to use than campfires which are often prohibited in certain areas. A camping stove manufactured by such trustworthy brands as Primus and Coleman are basically a fuel container and a fire faucet with burner grates. These grates can collapse for compact storage. More expensive models even have electronic ignition so you won’t need matches or lighter. Although it is always a good idea to pack matches anyway in case of ignition failure. Another version of a camping stove is a storm cooker which basically consists of a spirit burner with windshield and handle and a pot or pan for cooking. These stoves are lightweight because you don’t need a propane container, but are sufficient for one or two people only.
The newest models of camping stoves are environmentally friendly, odor-free, and very accommodating. To cook and eat take a pot, spoon, and a cup. To start the camping stove, if you don’t have an ignition feature, lighters are more reliable than matches. Take more fuel than you initially planned – camping stoves “eat” more fuel in cold weather.
To fully enjoy your hiking trip you must prepare beforehand. Even a small mistake in selecting your hiking equipment may result in an injury or at the least in discomfort and a negative experience. Check and fire up your camping stove while still at home and double check your hiking gear and equipment using a hiking checklist before you head out.

Take a family vacation this summer. It doesn’t have to be expensive because there are many things you can do to find cheap vacations.
Choose a destination closer to home. Avoid the hassle of airports and drive. Even with the price of gas at $143 a barrel, if your destination is not that far away, it will most likely be considerably cheaper than purchasing several plane tickets.
Instead of staying in a hotel, stay in a cabin. They tend to be considerably cheaper than hotel rooms and come with fully equipped kitchens that allow you to prepare your own meals, which save you additional money on your vacation. When you stay in a cabin, there tend to be many activities that you can enjoy during your stay. They may include hiking, boating, fishing, swimming and/or horseback riding.
Another one of the cheap vacations, probably the cheapest, is to go camping. You save additional money on accommodations, and are still able to prepare the meals yourself instead of eating at restaurants. Camping allows you to spend time with your family and enjoy many of the same activities available to those who stay in cabins.
If you choose to fly to your destination, compare air fares on the Internet to find cheap tickets. Be thorough and look at websites that compare several different airlines. When you compare air fares, don’t forget to include the taxes and fees. Some airlines charge many fees and will actually be much more expensive in the end than airlines with slightly higher ticket prices before fees. (Also, most airlines are now charging for checked bags. American Airlines charges $15 for the first checked bag and $25 for the second. Continental, Delta, Frontier, Northwest, United and US Airways charge nothing for the first checked bag and $25 for the second. Southwest does not charge any fees for checked bags.) If you will be staying in a hotel or need an auto rental, do additional searches that include everything you need to find the cheapest overall price for your vacation.
Take a vacation. Even if it’s a short distance from your home, and only for a couple of days, it’s a chance to get away, relax and enjoy time with your family. Try these tips to help you find a cheap vacation for your family.

Your Survival Depends on it.

The quality of your winter camping gear is very important and in some case critical. You need to be absolutely sure that it will withstand the temperature variations as well as the extreme conditions you may encounter during your camping excursions. The fact is, nobody goes on a camping trip expecting to be caught by extreme weather conditions or fall down an icy embankment and break an arm or a leg, but these things happens, so you need to be prepared for any potential situation if you want to survive.

On top of that if you would have to carry every piece of winter camping gear you might possibly need for every possible situation, you would need a truck, not a backpack. What you need to focus on is bringing the least amount of winter camping gear you need to survive any emergency situation. You won’t bring with you crutches or boards in case you break a leg, instead think about carrying heavy-duty tape that you could use combined with sticks that you can pick up on the ground. This simple trick will do the same as crutches without the excess of baggage.

Another item you might consider bringing along is a small hatchet or o folding saw. Since you won’t be carrying firewood with you, it is a good idea to have the tools that can allow you to cut some easily. Sure you won’t need to have a fire in every situation, but after a couple of days in the cold, having the equipment to prepare hot meals and keep you warm is highly recommended.

You Need To Be Prepared For Your Everyday Needs.

Below are some small tips to help you pack the required winter camping gear. We don’t usually fell thirsty during the winter but your winter camping gear must absolutely include an item to purify water. Some campers use iodine drops or tablet to that effect, you also need to filter the water. Then comes the eating part, most campers bring some dehydrated pouches which are very tasty, but they get old after a couple of days. Always try to have a couple of simple recipes for cooking over an open fire with food items to cook is always something you should consider having in your winter camping gear.

If you are going for a long camping trip you should always plan on a mean to relieve yourself. Also your winter camping gear should also contain hygiene items to make sure you remain healthy during your excursion. Inexperienced campers are often not aware of that, but maintaining your cleanliness is just as important as when you are at home. To that effect you should also plan on having some waterless sanitizing solution so you can wash your hands for time to time. Always make sure you remain healthy and comfortable during your camping trip.

There are also some more recent landmarks that attract millions of visitors each year to Paris, such as La Grande Arche in the business district of La Defense or The Center Nationale d’Art et de Culture Georges Pompidou, also known simply as the Beaubourg or the Pompidou Centre.
Another attraction are the Catacombs of Paris, which are a famous burial place with its network of subterranean tunnels and rooms located underneath Paris and you can go on an official tour through the old quarries.
And the banks of the River Seine in Paris will offer visitors an unforgettable experience by being able to get to see the sights from a completely different perspective, while cruising in a boat and perhaps sampling the French cuisine at the same time.
However, for those of us who would like to get away from it all, the Ile de France region of which Paris is at the centre becomes an ideal place, offering a multitude of nature, history, art and culture, but all within only a short distance from the periphery.
So, within the Ile de France region, you be able to discover more than 500km of navigable waterways, as well as many more kilometres of footpaths and historic sites along its beautiful rivers and canals.
But not far from Paris in the Ile de France region you will discover rich picturesque countryside and forests all within a short distance of the periphery and it boasts three National Parks and four National Forests that allow you to get away from it all and enjoy the natural beauty of France along with the slow pace of French country life.
With stunning scenery, idyllic towns, peace and tranquillity, along with the abundant wildlife that await its visitors, it is the perfect setting for a drive in the country, an invigorating walk or a typical French picnic lunch in the open air.
And although Paris still tends to have that allure as a destination for lovers, there is also an enormous amount to do for children of all ages and the adults alike! Disneyland Paris with all of its magic is obviously one of those destinations, along with Parc Asterix, but there are also some great modern museums that provide interaction, making learning fun.
And from interesting, historic towns, to the centre of Paris, back to the forests and national parks, to amusements or glitz and glamour, Paris has something for everyone to enjoy, but make sure that you allocate enough time to experience this incredible region of France.

More Togetherness Than You Could Ever Imagine

We have an advantage over many others, in that we worked together managing our own company prior to becoming full-timers. Shopping, cleaning, working and many other things have always been something we enjoy doing together, so for us it was an easy transition to being together in this lifestyle 24/7. Many couples that need the distance away from one another are able to find different activities at the parks and other places that will allow for this to happen. But you really need to be prepared to spend many hours together without other contact, especially when you are traveling and that is something we do often. We personally know several couples that separated within a year of coming out into this lifestyle but in all honesty they probably would have ended their marriage eventually anyway but this lifestyle always seems to quicken the inevitable.

Where Will You Go When Tempers Flair?

Even the biggest and most luxurious coaches have only about 400 square feet of living space. This makes it truly challenging when it comes to resolving a disagreement and even harder if you are actually traveling. It takes a special partnership to be able to withstand the constant challenges that arrive with living with one another in such a small space so it is always good to begin with a good solid foundation and a great friendship. This has been a magnificent experience for us and almost every moment we learn something new, the most recent thing we’ve learned is when to breath instead of talking.

Know Your Stress Points Before They Happen

Depending on your own circumstances, this lifestyle can be a bit stressful, whatever you argue about now will come along for the ride. One of our major stresses have always been our finances, one of the ways to alleviate our financial burdens has been to first and foremost, not carrying any notes with us. What we now have is completely paid for and we always try to keep our few bills that we have a few months paid in advance. Since one of the highest reasons for divorce are a couples finances we wanted to alleviate some of that pressure. We joke that we can be eating lobster in Maine one day and the very next, peanut butter sandwiches in a Wal-Mart parking lot but knowing that the next road always leads to our dreams makes it easier to handle the more stressful ones.

It Works So Well For Us

This has been the best experience for us and we would not exchange it for anything even if we could. Our marriage has become stronger because of this lifestyle, it has taught us how to be more loving, gentle, kinder human beings. We’ve learned to be more bendable to things that happen in life, to lighten up and have some fun. To allow life to unfold, follow our hearts more often and most importantly to go with life’s flow.

Our Advice To You

If you love traveling, have always wanted to feel the freedom, and have a good friendship with your partner then why not give this lifestyle a chance, if it’s not for you then at least you tried and you can always return to the stationary life whenever you choose.
