If you get hooked on traveling, you are going to want to keep a record of your trips. Trust me, the passage of time eventually results in memories fading away or getting very fuzzy.
Preserving Memorable Trips
You might go an entire work week without much of anything significant happening to you. When traveling, the exact opposite is true. Time tends to crunch down. There is something going on practically each and every day whether funny, interesting or troubling. This condensing of experiences is arguably what makes traveling so great, but it lends itself to long-term problems. The primary one is that you tend to forget things over the years.
I have traveled much of my life and enjoy it to no end. At one point in time, I had a philosophy of saving every penny I could for two years. I would then quit my job, sell all non-essentials and go travel for as long as I possibly could. I got so hooked on this approach that I would rent the cheapest dump I could find, never go out, eat tons of rice and so on all in an attempt to save more money and take a longer trip. While I have subsequently had to grow up a bit and can’t travel as much, I can still relive my trips because I did one smart thing during that period. I kept journals of my trips.
On every trip I took, I would drag along a journal with me. At first, the “journal” was a notepad, which took a beating. I soon graduated to a notepad stuck in two big food baggies to protect it from water and whatever else I stuck into my bag. Eventually, I found the perfect answer in Nomad Travel Journals, which come in a protective case.
During a lull in my daily travels, I would take a few minutes to jot down what I had been doing. I would put narratives of where I had been, what I had seen and my impressions. Looking back, I can tell you I also worked hard on my artistic doodling career, but only now realize I had no talent. Regardless, I also used journal to convert various scraps of paper with names, phone numbers and emails into one location. Because I had half a brain in this regard, I know correspond with friends by email every week regardless of the fact they are in Denmark, Thailand, Cambodia, Holland, Sweden, Costa Rica and Brazil.
Perhaps the greatest thing about maintaining a travel journal is you really preserve the experience. Yes, videos and photos are nice, but they don’t tell you what you were thinking, your state of mind and so on. I love to read books, but no writer has been able to come up with a masterpiece that beats my travel journals.
If you are going to be traveling, I highly recommend you take a long a travel journal of some sort. Get one in a case to protect it from the elements. It will make for great reading later on and you will not lose the contact information for all those cool people you met on the road.

If your preferred method of vactioning includes hitching a pop-up to your car, there’s a wonderful campground located right on Walt Disney World property near the Magic Kingdom called Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. The resort accomodates tent campers and RV’ers alike, and also provides “wilderness cabins” for those who are camping-challenged.
The resort is located on over 700 acres with most campsites shaded by pine and cypress trees. Deer, rabbits, ducks, and even armadillos and peacocks may be seen roaming the campgrounds.
The large size of the resort requires its own internal transportation system. Use of cars to travel the campsite is prohibited except for arrivals and departures. Three buses travel Fort Wilderness to transport guests to the recreation, dining, and park transportation areas. Bus waits can often be long, so using a bike or electric golf cart will save time. You can bring your own or rent them at the resort’s Bike Barn. Golf cart rental reservations can be made up to a year in advance (supply is limited).
Campsites with electric, water, sewer, & cable run from $53 to $92 per night, depending on what time of year you visit (2006 prices). Less expensive rates are available for sites with fewer amenities. If you belong to AAA, you may qualify for a AAA discount (inquire when making your reservation).

The one-bedroom wilderness cabins have all of the amenities of your typical hotel and sleep up to six people. The cabins also include fully equipped kitchens and a charcoal grill if you want to skip the resort and park restaurants for any of your meals.
“Comfort stations” are found throughout the resort with bathrooms, private showers, and laundry facilities. There is also a resort concierge on site to help with dining reservations and touring the parks.
In addition to the Disney World parks, there is plenty to do right at Fort Wilderness. Recreation includes two pools, an arcade, children’s playground, watercraft rentals, fishing, bike rentals, horseback riding and carriage rides, video rentals, nightly Chip’n Dale’s Campfire Sing-a-long, jogging trail, tennis, and electric carts rentals.
There are two casual dining options at the resort. The Hoop De Doo Revue dinner show and Mickey’s Backyard Barbecue are also hosted at Fort Wilderness.
To make a reservation, call Disney Reservations at 1-407-939-6244.

France offers you an enormous choice of goods, but the quintessential French purchase is clothing, especially designer fashions. If you’re on a budget, window shop at the great fashion houses to get a feel of what you want. Then head for the markets and budget shops to do your actual shopping.

Shopping In Paris

Paris is divided into quarters or arrondissements, each with its own shopping opportunities. Marais is the place for elegance, St-Germain for international fashion brands and Montmartre is dripping with romance.

Paris is of course home to the large French department stores, les grands magasins such as Galeries Lafayette and Printemps and you can spend whole days browsing them. But the sheer joy of shopping in Paris comes from visiting the galleries or passages, the 19th-century glass-roofed shopping arcades that just ooze charm and transform rainy days into shopping adventures.

Bear in mind that most stores in Paris close on Sundays which gives you the opportunity to explore one of the city’s many flea markets.

Shopping In Bordeaux

Few people outside Europe realise what a shopper’s paradise Bordeaux truly is. There are some of the world’s most popular brand names on parade here: Cartier, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Mont Blanc, Christian Lacroix, Rolex and Tartine et Chocolat.

The pinnacle of shopping in Bordeaux is the Golden Triangle of the Allées de Tourny, the Cours de l’Intendance and the Cours Clemenceau. This triangle contains the Place des Grands-Hommes, home to the city’s most prestigious shops vending everything from foodstuffs the latest fashions.

You don’t have to shell out your last dollar on upscale designer shops, however. There are plenty of cheaper French chain stores here for you to choose from along with countless locally-owned boutiques where you can get something special at a reasonable price.

And of course don’t forget the wine. The whole Bordeaux region offer their local vintages for sale by the case and at very favorable prices.

One of the most dangerous jobs in the United States Navy is to sit in an aircraft and be launched off the ship by catapault; unless you reach the proper airspeed you fall into the drink. If you fail to eject in time, you die; so although it is extremely dangerous the rules are really simple. Actually fighter pilots often fear the “Cold Cat Shot” when the steam powered catapult gives you a less than adequate amount of power and your airspeed is insufficient to fly. When taking off an aircraft carrier your aircraft is generally at gross weight; full of fuel, munitions and other load factors. Many aircraft must hit 175 Knots by the end of the deck or the plane falls into the water. Bummer, yes definitely that, what you said.
There maybe a way to hedge your bet when launching aircraft, Up until now this concept would never have worked, but now that we have new materials it will be possible within a few years or less. I propose a large system in front of the aircraft carrier, which would funnel the air up in front of the aircraft carrier’s front edge. I propose that this system use the relative wind of the aircraft carrier’s forward speed and funnel this air directly in front of the catapult launching area. I propose we make this giant funnel out of nano tube sheets so that it can support itself, be light weight and somewhat flexible.
By using the Bernoulli Principle the air coming thru the funnel will be sped up. The funnel can either push air up under the aircraft or the aircraft could fly thru the funnel. By adding the forward speed of the ship, the normal airflow from wind and the sped up air thru the giant nano-tube sheet material Bernoulli funnel, we can insure safer launches. Think on this.

Why the Discount Carriers are Winning

Over the years, air travel has declined significantly. Bad economic times, acts of terrorism, and the overall high cost of flying have deterred many travelers from flying the friendly skies. Instead, they’re opting for local travel that doesn’t require flying or selecting other methods of transportation such as driving, taking the train, or going “Greyhound”. As a result, the major airlines are making less and less each year, forcing some to close up shop and call it quits.

However, bad economic times and acts of terrorism aren’t the only things affecting the major airlines and the air travel industry as a whole. Discount air carriers who offer limited yet discount air travel rates have put a huge dent in the business of the major airlines. These airlines, such as U.S. based Jet Blue and Southwest Airlines, can undercut the major players in the air travel market because of lower overhead and less labor costs. Since the discount air travel carriers are smaller and often only have one type of aircraft (compared to bigger airlines that have full fleets of varying plane types), they have more flexibility with their pricing and can offer discount air travel deals more often then their much larger counterparts. And when combined with the decline in overall air travel, the discount air carriers are winning out over the larger airlines, causing the major players to rethink their game plan and, in many cases, start offering discount air travel through dynamically priced fares.

Using Discount Air Travel and Carriers for Your Benefit

For the most part, discount airlines operate within their country of origin. In other words, many don’t offer flights abroad. So if you need to fly domestically for business travel or a family vacation, a discount air carrier is the way to go. However, just because the discount airlines don’t offer overseas travel, it doesn’t mean you can’t get discount air travel deals on international flights. Remember, domestic AND international air travel has dwindled significantly over the years; so, the major airlines are often scrambling to fill overseas flights. As a result, the bigger airlines are starting to offer last minute travel deals and dynamically priced fares to try and fill their flights as much as they can. And since the discount air carriers are taking much of their previous domestic air travel customers, the larger airlines are desperate to make a buck any way they can.

Finding Discount Air Travel Deals

Some airlines offer last minute and discounted travel deals directly to the consumer; however, many work with online travel sites and supply them with bulk-rate deals on plane tickets. Either way, the key to finding discount air travel deals is to search the web and call the airlines. Compare prices and give yourself time to research your discount travel options. You may find that booking last minute will save you a bundle on your flight in some cases, but cost you twice as much in others; so be flexible and don’t purchase the first ticket you find. You’ll find a better deal on discount air travel if you shop around.

The discount air carriers have caused a significant shift in the air travel industry. There is more competition and less people buying, causing the industry to offer more discounted air travel deals than ever before. As a traveler, this means there are currently more ways to save on your air travel. All you have to do is go out and find those deals.

Women today travel constantly and that too all over the world. Most manage to successfully juggle a professional life with a private one. Statistics reveal that almost 50% of business travelers are women and the number continues to grow each day. Travel at short notice means being organized and ready to go. Be smart and plan well ahead.
1. Keep on tab a list of baby sitters who would be willing to pitch in, even overnight if required. Keep a small book handy in which you jot down things like what the kids eat, their schedules, important phone numbers, likes and dislikes, as well as numbers of the doctors and list of medications including known allergies.
2. Keep a travel bag always packed and ready to go. Pack a combination of clothes so that they will tide you over irrespective of the weather in your destination. Wear easy to maintain and dark colors on trips. They don’t show stains, are wrinkle free and will drape well.
3. Always eat lightly and foods that are cooked avoid raw salads and water as well as ice. It is wise to snack before a flight and also to try and sleep during flight. This way you will arrive at your destination refreshed. Be sure to drink plenty of bottled water during travel.
4. Set up a schedule to call home at time zones that work for you and your loved ones. Make it a point to get mementoes for your family members as also the baby sitter and others who pick up the slack while you are away. It shows them that you care.

5. Put safety first always place a “do not disturb sign on your hotel door and if nervous place a chair under the door knob like they do in movies. Keep your cell phone on and fully charged by you at all times and carry protection in the form of pepper spray, an alarm, or if you are trained and licensed a small weapon with its safety on. In most cities the police organize training classes for women to learn how to protect themselves and what one must do in an emergency. Try and make time to attend these.
6. Avoid dark lanes and abandoned roads. Never talk to strangers or accept food or drink from someone you don’t know. While traveling never leave food or drink unattended. Be vigilant at all times.
7. Choose a hotel with care. Choose to stay at well established hotels or small inns and B&B where the proprietors are generally family people. Always e-mail and fax details of your staying arrangements and travel plans to your home as well as office.
8. Always carry important documents, money, traveler’s checks, and passport in a money belt worn around your waist.
9. Always act confident and move around in groups there is always safety in numbers.
10. If unwell go to a state run hospital. Never to a private clinic.
11. Never travel with valuables like jewelry and always carry a small flashlight and medical kit with you.
12. For safety reasons arrange with your family to take appropriate action if you do not get in touch with them as planned.
Avoid room service and eat in the hotel dinning room. Also never reveal details of where you come from or your travel plans to anyone.
Be vigilant and smart and you will be able to travel often and safely.
